Montreal, May 1st, 2012 — Social media has altered the way we are doing business, it has contributed to the emergence of a new era in business communication, and to the strengthening of corporate relationships in community and among consumers. As the social landscape changes and consumers look to social media channels such as Facebook, Linked In, Twitter and other social sharing sites, businesses must not only invest in understanding where their consumers are, but how to get involved for maximum efficiency and success. The 140 Conference Montreal offers a unique opportunity in Montreal featuring over 30 spectacular speakers in a lineup that is hard to match.
The conference will also integrate new technology and software, such as the recently released Montreal based EchoerApp, winner of the people’s choice award at LeWeb ’11, a geo-specific information-sharing app that aims to generate “thoughts that live in places” released world wide last Thursday, hitting over 16,000 downloads. This will be the first time it will be used in this setting. Other new social media tools will also be launched, as well as a 140 Montreal conference custom app that will turn the “program” into a rich multimedia experience for participants.
Mitch Joel, President of Twist Image, Author of Six Pixels of Separation , dubbed the “Rock Star of Digital Marketing” by Marketing Magazine who refers to him as “one of North America’s leading digital visionaries” will be opening the conference. Sam Fiorella, Chief CX Strategist, Sensei Inc. featured speaker at the 140 Montreal will introduce his new concept, ”I chose 140ConfMTL as the place to launch my ‘Business 20/20′ concept, which is the foundation for an upcoming business book depicting what a social business will look like in the year 2020.”
How did the event come to Montreal?
Mila Araujo, Producer of the 140 Montreal, and Director of Personal Insurance at Ogilvy & Ogilvy Inc, a third generation financial services firm with offices in Montreal and Toronto, embarked on a journey to understand social media and how it could be used to benefit Ogilvy & Ogilvy’s clients, “We wanted to understand how we could increase accessibility to our clients, be more involved in social causes and integrate social into our business for optimum customer experience.”
As part of this effort, she attended conferences in several cities in the US. Among them the 140 Conference in Hudson Valley, NY, and BrandsConf in NYC. The unique pace of the conference and quality of depth and inspiration in these fast paced talks were incredibly educational and inspiring. After realizing how much knowledge could be accumulated at just one conference vs. hours of researching and trying to learn online, she wanted to make the event accessible to Quebecers, and bring more people to Montreal. In a partnership with Tourisme Montreal, and with Jeff Pulver’s support, and sponsorship of her firm, Ogilvy & Ogilvy Inc. the conference went into production and will be held May 15th 2012 at the Excentris Theatre in Montreal. When asked, “Why the investment in social media?”, Mila commented: “People, companies, and in particular, non-profits can accomplish so much more when they start to understand the value in using social media. Social Media is not only about online sales, it’s about community, relationships and building things together. As a Financial services firm, Ogilvy & Ogilvy recognizes the focus on relationships – it’s what the business is built on. ”
Kathy (Kat) Mandelstein, Director of World Wide Demand, Digital Marketing & Events, IBM Social Business, will also present, “I am thrilled to be speaking at the first #140CONF in Montreal focused on a key strategic growth area for most companies today, Social Business. This is the perfect format to have the important discussion of how social is transforming the business world.”
The New York area will be well represented at the event, with speakers such as Ric Dragon, CEO of Dragon Search and author of the upcoming book “Social Marketology”; Ted Curtin founding partner and Chief Brand Strategist of i-Marketing Services; Stan Phelps, Chief Solutions Officer at Synergy Events, Author, What’s Your Purple Goldfish and Amy Vernon, former journalist, turned new media maven and Chief Honcho, Amy Vernon LLC.
The 140 Montreal also boasts a strong presence of women speakers, 50% of the presenters being women. Deborah Weinstein, Co-founder, Partner and President of Strategic Objectives, the award winning Toronto PR Firm, will present among other inspirational women speakers, who will share their stories of empowerment and success using social media.
“People talk about all kinds of things in 140 characters or less. Some connect with great depth and share their ideas… Ideas materialize into real life events and often effect actual change. When you think about it, it’s actually pretty amazing. At 140 Montreal, speakers will share their thoughts about social media and the great idea incubator that is Twitter. I’m honoured and humbled to be one of them” – JC Little, President, Creative Director, Producer, Little Animation Inc.
